The Morning After Pill/Plan B:
This pill contains a high dose of the hormone progestin. It prevents or ends pregnancy. It is also know as "emergency contraceptive."
This pill is designed to be taken in two doses. The first pill is supposed to be taken with the first 72 hours after intercourse, followed by the second pill 12 hours later.
How does is work?
- Ovulation may be prevented.
- The lining of the Fallopian tubes may be affected, preventing fertilization, or conception.
- The lining of your uterus will become irritated causing the embryo to have difficulty to implant in your uterus.
Side effects:
- Nausea & vomitting
- Irregular & unpredictable menstrual periods
- Breast tenderness
- Fatigue
- Headaches
The Abortion Pill or RU-486: Known as medical abortion
First Dr. Visit: You take 3 mifepristone pills. These pills contain a drug that cuts off the supply of blood and nutrients to the developing baby.
Second Dr. Visit: You will take another drug called misoprostol. This will cause your uterus to contract and expel the baby.
Third Dr. Visit: You will confirm the abortion is complete.
Risks & side effects:

The Pill: Also known as oral contraceptive.
The pill comes in progestin only or combinations of progestin & estrogen. The pill contains powerful steroids.
How does is work?
- It can prevent ovulation.
- It can cause the mucus in the cervix to change so that if sperm reach the cervix, it is more difficult to them to enter.
- It can irritate the lining of the uterus so that if the first two actions fail, the baby will die before he or she can actually attach to the lining of the uterus. This is called "Chemical Abortion"

- Breast Cancer
- Blood Clots
- Stroke
- Weight Gain
- No protection from STD's (sexually transmitted diseases)
